The Ammies have worn red since the arrival of the Class of 92 ownership group in 2014, but for four decades prior to that, the team played in orange and black.
According to the club, 77.1% of fans backed the return to orange, with the switch expected to take effect before the start of the 2026-27 season.
The decision follows Gary Neville and David Beckham’s recent takeover in May, after the pair led a new consortium that acquired full control of the club from the remaining members of the Class of 92.
Best reaction from the fans
One Salford City supporter said: “It is a bold decision from the club, a significant change. With new leadership in place, it feels like the right moment to shape a new identity, push the club forward and give everyone, players and fans alike, a fresh start. Timing is everything and this feels like the right time.”
Another fan added: “Salford is different. It is about local pride and belonging to a community with its own history and its own future. Orange gives us a distinct identity and a colour we can truly call our own. It is more than just a kit, it is a statement that we are Salford and proud.”
The change will come into effect ahead of the 2026-27 season, with significant work to be undertaken at the Peninsula Stadium to update cladding and seats, amongst other infrastructure upgrades that are already due to take place.
