Bolton made a stronger start and were in front inside eight minutes. Jordi Osei-Tutu picked out Kyle Dempsey, who steadied himself before driving a low finish into the corner.

The hosts registered their first effort after 28 minutes when Liam Walsh turned on the edge of the area, only to lose his footing and drag his shot well wide. Moments earlier there had been calls for a penalty as Jerry Yates went down under a challenge from George Johnston, but referee Ruebyn Ricardo showed no interest.

Bolton had the chance to make it 2-0

The visitors should have doubled their lead shortly after the interval. Osei-Tutu delivered once again, this time for the unmarked Amario Cozier-Duberry, who somehow headed wide from six yards.

Kodua entered the fray shortly after the hour. Bolton’s task became harder with 20 minutes left when Xavier Simons received a second yellow card for a foul on the substitute.

Luton continued to chase an equaliser and Teden Mengi fired over as the pressure mounted. With seven minutes remaining, their persistence paid off. Shayden Morris lifted in a delicate cross, Milli Alli cushioned it into Kodua’s path and the forward thumped his finish into the roof of the net. It was his fourth goal of the campaign, all scored from the bench.
