Manchester United fans criticise category pricing
Club members will be paying a lot more next season
Manchester United have been criticised by fans after confirming matchday ticket prices at Old Trafford could increase to as much as £97 next season.

Last season, the highest price for a single matchday ticket was £66. The hike comes in the wake of the club’s worst domestic league finish in over 50 years. United ended the campaign in 15th place, their lowest position since relegation in 1973-74.
For the first time, the club will introduce a tiered pricing structure for the roughly 20,000 matchday tickets available per game. Four categories have been created, with the cheapest tier applicable only to select cup matches.

For Premier League fixtures, the lowest-priced ticket will cost £37 and applies only to category C matches, including those against Sunderland and Wolves.
The most expensive tickets, priced at £97, fall under category A and cover high-profile clashes with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle and Tottenham.
Club officials at Old Trafford maintain that increasing ticket prices is a necessary step to help balance the books, insisting that the introduction of match categorisation aligns with practices already adopted by most other Premier League clubs.
A fresh kick in the teeth for Manchester United fans.

Olivia T, a Manchester United season ticket holder, told us: "When the club said they were introducing this new model, many fan groups (including the Manchester United Supporters Trust) urged them the club to keep most matches at current levels and only apply the highest price category for a small number of the biggest matches each season"
Ajay, another United fan, added: "What Manchester United needs next season is a sense of unity between the club and its supporters, with a team on the pitch backed by loyal and vocal fans helping to lift it after the dismal campaign that unfolded last year. I can handle being rubbish on the pitch but I hate being ripped off. I'll be attending less matches next season and watching FC United of Manchester instead."
Another Season Ticket holder added: "Despite the club's promises, we're all being ripped off again. It's an absolute disgrace and I fear this is only the start of more increases."
