Xavier Simons had a late goal disallowed, which would likely have ended the 48-year wait for victory against their Lancashire rivals, the same weekend that the original Star Wars film premiered.
Blackpool took the lead with their opening attack. Dale Taylor bypassed George Johnston just inside his own half before firing a near-post shot that ricocheted off the post and the goalkeeper, Teddy Sharman-Lowe, before crossing the line.

Bolton drew level shortly after the hour mark when Amario Cozier-Duberry’s shot took a significant deflection into the path of Mason Burstow, on loan from Hull City, who struck home his third goal of the season from close range.

Sharman-Lowe then produced a fine stop to deny Taylor, but Bolton believed they had claimed all three points when Simons drove a shot into the net from Josh Sheehan’s corner. The celebrations were quickly halted as the assistant referee flagged for an offside player obstructing goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s view.
Which Bolton players stood out?
Josh Dacres-Cogley
Playing on the front foot, he moved forward to support Cozier-Duberry and also made a couple of well-timed challenges at the back. It was a solid performance.
Josh Sheehan
He should have been awarded a penalty and delivered an excellent corner for Simons late in the second half. A little more penetrative passing might have improved his performance.
Martin Burstow
He scored a neat poacher’s goal and came close to adding another with an overhead kick. He works hard for every opportunity and is beginning to establish himself as a real favourite with the fans.
