Reijnders, signed from Milan in the summer, played a central role in three of City’s goals and underlined his potential as a dynamic presence in midfield.
After ending last season empty-handed for the first time in eight years, Pep Guardiola’s side began this campaign in emphatic fashion. Haaland headed over early on but made no mistake moments later, turning in Rico Lewis’s low cross.
Reijnders, involved in the opener, added the second himself four minutes later with a precise finish into the corner. He then set up Haaland’s thumping second just after the hour to remove any doubt about the result. Substitute Rayan Cherki rounded off the scoring late on.

Wolves produced moments of threat, with Marshall Munetsi’s header chalked off for offside and Jorgen Strand Larsen hitting the side-netting. Rayan Ait-Nouri volleyed narrowly over against his former club, while at the other end James Trafford, deputising for Ederson, marked his debut with a clean sheet and a composed display.
Who stood out?
Tijjani Reijnders
At the centre of City’s dominance was Reijnders, making his Premier League debut after featuring in the Club World Cup during the summer. His performance underlined why he could quickly become a favourite among the supporters. The 27-year-old delivered an energetic and influential display that set the tone for City’s quick start and helped secure a 14th opening-day win in the past 15 seasons.
Erling Haaland
An obvious choice to pick here to be fair. Haaland was outstanding and looks to be at his absolute best. The Norwegian is going go be an important figure if City are going to compete on multiple fronts this season.
What's next for City
Guardiola's side host Tottenham next weekend, followed by a trip to Brighton to round off the month. As proven by results last season, these could both be difficult matches for City. Can they pick up 6 points and have a perfect month?
