The two sides had met only days earlier in the Carabao Cup, where Wigan edged a narrow 1-0 win. With both managers rotating their line-ups, Stockport looked set to exact revenge when Jayden Fevrier’s effort deflected past Sam Tickle inside four minutes. Despite dominating much of the first half, they were unable to build on that early lead.
Wigan grew into the game after the interval. Morgan Fox rattled the crossbar with a free-kick before delivering a pinpoint cross that Saydee volleyed home with 12 minutes to play.
The hosts could even have snatched victory. Substitute Paul Mullin steered Fraser Murray’s cross just wide, while Joseph Hungbo’s late strike was cleared off the line by Brad Hills.
What do the Wigan fans think?
Ryan, a Wigan fan who watched the match live, added: “Enjoyed that second half. That’s what a Latics team is all about. Great equaliser and, on balance, a draw was probably fair, with chances missed at both ends. An entertaining game.”
Paul was also there. He added: "I’ll take a draw after the second half went downhill. I knew we couldn’t keep a clean sheet and Wigan could have won it late on. We need to be putting those chances away in the second half to kill the game. A decent point in the end."Stockport reaction
Geoff, a County Season Ticket holder, was in the away end. He told us: “Why can’t we play for the full 90 minutes? Ok, yes, Wigan came out the better team in the second half and could easily have beaten us in the end, but we won’t get anywhere if we only perform for 45 minutes.”
Peter added: "Fair result in the end but when will County put two halves of decent football together?"
