Plenty of places here for an excellent scran.

The Rice Bowl

On the corner of Cross Street and King Street, The Rice Bowl could hardly be more central. Established in 1960, it offers authentic Pekinese and Cantonese dishes with plenty of seafood and vegetarian choices. While classics such as beef chow mein and sweet and sour chicken remain as comforting as ever, there is more to discover, from panko-crusted chicken in lemon lime sauce to sizzling lamb plates. It is little wonder that many of its customers have been returning for decades.

One Google review said: "Great place. I walked past it and didn’t even realise I was already there, but it’s nice inside. I had a 30-minute break from work and quickly popped in, asking the waitress for the fastest food I could possibly get. They brought it just in time, and I finished it before my break ended. It tasted so good as well."

Happy Seasons

For a culinary pick-me-up, the triple roasted meats at Happy Seasons in Manchester’s Chinatown rarely disappoint. The combination of char siu, crispy belly pork and roasted duck, served over egg fried rice, is a signature dish that helps explain the constant queue outside this much-loved Cantonese spot.

One Google review said: "Delicious, absolutely amazing. Would highly recommend to anyone who loves Asian food.  There’s always a queue and you cannot book, but the maximum waiting time is 10–15 minutes, so it’s worth it. Staff are very nice and friendly, and the food is freshly made too.

Blue Eyed Panda

Amid the fashionable bars and restaurants of Ancoats, this Jersey Street restaurant offers a more traditional taste of China. With a relaxed interior, it specialises in dim sum alongside a range of Cantonese and Szechuan dishes. The menu is vibrant and fresh, but what sets it apart is its commitment to inclusivity, with dedicated gluten free, vegan, vegetarian and halal options ensuring everyone can find something to enjoy.

One recent customer posted this review: "This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Manchester and arguably among the top 10 Chinese dining experiences in the UK. Every dish I tried was exceptional."

Little Yang Sing

Blending Cantonese tradition with a modern touch, Little Yang Sing offers a calm refuge in the heart of bustling Chinatown. Known for its dim sum, it also caters well to plant-based diners and pairs its dishes with a thoughtfully assembled wine list.

One delighted customer posted this as a Google review: "Delicious food and impeccable service. They have plenty of vegan options. If you tell them you are vegan, they will bring you a list of dishes from the vegetarian menu that are not suitable for vegans, making it very easy to choose. The food was amazing and the portions were very generous. My partner and I could barely walk afterwards."
