Swiss striker Lorent Tolaj gave Argyle the lead in the 70th minute, winning and converting a penalty with a clever chip over Sam Tickle. But their advantage was short-lived as Murray levelled eight minutes from time, firing a powerful rising strike past Conor Hazard after Argyle failed to clear in the blustery conditions.

Tolaj came close to opening the scoring in the 16th minute, his first-time half volley beating Tickle but rattling the crossbar following a well-worked short corner routine. Teenager Tegan Finn linked up with Law McCabe, whose cross found Tolaj in space.

Wigan nearly hit back when Murray lifted the ball over the bar from close range after an incisive Jensen Weir delivery. Tolaj then missed the target with a shot on the spin following Malachi Boateng’s header down, before Boateng himself went close moments later with a right-footed effort from Bali Mumba’s pass.

Tolaj’s penalty eventually broke the deadlock, but Murray’s late strike made levelled the score.

From that moment on, Wigan played with renewed belief, throwing everything forward in search of a decisive winner. Murray curled a free-kick narrowly wide, while Weir forced Hazard into a frantic save with a fierce low drive.

Argyle continued to threaten from set pieces, but the Latics held firm to secure a hard-earned point. Having halted their run of defeats, they will now aim to get back to winning ways when they host Wycombe Wanderers next weekend.
