The result also saw County, who had last triumphed at Peterborough in 2008, drop from pole position in the table, slipping behind Lincoln because of a now-inferior goal difference.
A closer analysis of what happened
Peterborough took the lead after just five minutes when Peter Kioso’s cross found Harry Leonard, who set up Ben Woods to score his first goal for the club.
Having dominated much of the early play, Posh extended their advantage in the 37th minute. Jimmy-Jay Morgan’s effort was parried by Ben Hinchliffe, only for Kyrell Lisbie to slot in the rebound.

County made two changes at the restart, bringing on Lowe and Jayden Fevrier. Lowe was quickly presented with a chance to reduce the deficit, but his header from Odin Bailey’s delivery was comfortably held by home goalkeeper Alex Bass.
Three minutes later, Lowe met a low Owen Moxon cross from the right but directed the ball just wide of the near post. On the hour, Jack Diamond tested Bass again, following a pass from Fevrier, but the goalkeeper managed to keep the shot out.
Stockport’s defeat was sealed in the 76th minute as Brandon Khela fired a powerful finish into the top of the net from a difficult angle.
Declan Frith came close to adding a fourth, only for Hinchliffe to block his shot, while Stockport’s Jayden Fevrier was denied a late consolation by Alex Bass in stoppage time.
