What has gone well for Manchester City so far this season?

After an inconsistent start to the season at times, City have looked back to their best in recent weeks.

Macca is a season ticket holder at the Etihad Stadium who has answered some key questions from GM Super News.

Pep Guardiola’s side return to Premier League action after the international week with five wins and fifteen points from their last six matches. They are also progressing well in the Champions League.

Which player is flying this season?

Beyond the inevitable focus on their prolific Norwegian striker, Jeremy Doku has emerged as the standout performer. He has added end product to his pace and directness, contributing goals, assists and decisive moments in a way that marks a sharp shift from his earlier seasons. His confidence is growing with every match and he looks increasingly central to how City force openings in the final third.

Which player is struggling?

Savinho is enduring a difficult spell. A summer overshadowed by transfer uncertainty and injury has left him struggling to find rhythm, and he appears well short of the tempo required. It has prompted some supporters to wonder whether City might have been better served accepting Tottenham's sizeable bid. The pressure on him is considerable and it comes only weeks after he committed to a long-term deal.

What are City doing best tactically?

There is a renewed sharpness about City's attacking play, backed by a sturdier sense of control and physical presence that deserted them last season. They can sit compact when needed, break with real pace and invention, and still show the patience required to unpick a deep defensive line.

I want my manager to give me more of Matheus Nunes and Nico O'Reilly as the full-back pairing. In a position that has proved problematic, the pair have offered a rare sense of stability. Despite the arrival of Rayan Ait Nouri and the setback in failing to secure a natural right-sided option, this combination may be the closest thing to a dependable solution.

Which players are fans obsessed with?

Our fans seem obsessed with Rayan Cherki, and with good reason. He is a throwback in many ways, a player unafraid to attempt the audacious and driven by a desire to excite. He will not replace Kevin De Bruyne in style or output, and perhaps nobody truly could, but Cherki brings qualities that sit outside the Belgian's repertoire.

But, they should be thinking about how early this is in the Cherki project. This is a player whose raw talent always looked destined to flourish under elite coaching, and Guardiola appears to be unlocking that potential. It feels like the beginning of a trajectory that could propel him towards the game's top tier.

What were your expectations for the season?

My expectations for the season were centred on reasserting control and mounting a stronger challenge. After recovering from consecutive defeats in August, City now look capable of a sustained title push. The momentum gathered since then has shifted the outlook.

Give a rating for the season so far?

I’d say 7.5 out of 10, marked down largely because the early stumbles created unnecessary anxiety.

One short paragraph to sum up how you're feeling right now?

The outcome of next spring's major competitions remains uncertain, but the sense of anticipation around this team is unmistakable, driven by fresh arrivals and the revitalised form of Phil Foden and Doku, all of which is helping to reveal new dimensions to Erling Haaland.
