The visitors had recovered from an early setback to lead 2-1, only for Osborn to divert the ball beyond his own goalkeeper, Corey Addai, with 11 minutes remaining.

Bolton are still without a league win over their derby rivals since 1998. However, on-loan striker Johnny Kenny’s effort marked their first league goal against Stockport, excluding cup competitions, in 25 years. The Celtic forward showed strength to hold off Ethan Pye before putting Bolton ahead in the 39th minute.

Stockport appeared on course for a fourth consecutive derby win, but Osborn’s late intervention changed the outcome before substitute Louie Barry was dismissed after picking up two bookings in the closing stages.
