Rochdale kept their National League title hopes alive as Emmanuel Dieseruvwe struck deep into added time.
A closer analysis of what happened
With Dale sitting two points behind leaders York and with an inferior goal difference, there was little room for error before a decisive final-day meeting between the sides.
Aidan Barlow opened the scoring in the 36th minute, guiding a low effort into the bottom corner after the ball fell kindly to him on the edge of the area.
That appeared enough to seal a crucial three points, only for Braintree to level at the start of added time when substitute John Akinde forced the ball over the line.
Rochdale, however, responded with further late drama as Dieseruvwe collected a long pass forward and finished decisively to snatch the win.
