Huddersfield appeared in control at 3-1 after 66 minutes, having seen Jordi Osei-Tutu dismissed 13 minutes earlier for a foul on the two-goal David Kasumu.
But Bolton, who left it late to win the reverse fixture in October, responded through the in-form Johnny Kenny before Cissoko delivered the decisive late moment.
The home side had taken the lead after 14 minutes
Bolton captain Eoin Toal scored his third goal of the season. Kasumu, without a goal for the Terriers since December 2024, levelled seven minutes into the second half.
Osei-Tutu then brought him down, earning a red card, and Marcus Harness converted the resulting penalty. Kasumu extended the lead to 3-1 when his effort deflected off George Johnston and beat Jack Bonham, a goal that seemed to have settled the contest.
Incredible late drama
In recent weeks, Bolton had won with 10-man at Plymouth so some people were arguing that this wasn't over. They were to be proven correct.
Huddersfield, seventh in the table, were undone by Bolton’s sheer persistence. Kenny, on loan from Celtic, scored for a fourth consecutive game after 77 minutes, before Cissoko, introduced late on for the injured Chris Forino, curled in a superb left-footed finish from the right as the clock ticked into the 101st minute.
“Our players know how to fight…”
Bolton fan Mark Scott told us: “Towards the end of the match, our players laid siege to the Huddersfield goal. Our players know how to fight, and once we scored the 2nd goal, I was convinced we would score a third. To score a third in such circumstances should give us the momentum now to secure a place in the top 6. Come on Bolton!”
