Exeter goalkeeper Jack Bycroft scored a remarkable equaliser deep into stoppage time to earn his side a point in a six-goal thriller against League One play-off hopefuls Stockport County.
The 24-year-old went forward for a late corner and met Danny Andrew’s delivery with a powerful header, preserving Exeter’s survival hopes and prompting celebrations in Cardiff City, who were promoted after Stockport dropped points.
It had been an open, end-to-end contest from the outset. County took the lead after nine minutes when Jack Diamond’s cross was not cleared and Malik Mothersille converted from close range.

Mothersille then turned provider on 29 minutes, finding the unmarked Josh Stokes, who guided a composed finish into the corner from 10 yards.
Exeter responded before the break through Reece Cole, who struck a crisp half-volley from the edge of the area to complete a move he had begun.
County created enough chances to put the game beyond doubt
They lacked precision in front of goal, and when they did find the target, Bycroft proved equal to the task.
The visitors drew level on 70 minutes when substitute Timur Tutierov volleyed in Ilmari Niskanen’s cross shortly after coming on. Yet County restored their lead seven minutes later, Louie Barry striking the post before Odin Bailey reacted quickest to turn in the rebound.
Chances continued to come at both ends, but the final act belonged to Bycroft, who emerged as an unlikely hero six minutes into stoppage time to bring a breathless contest to a fitting conclusion.
