The FA's Full-Time website lists the 40-year-old Jamaican Usain Bolt as a registered player for Wythenshawe Vets, who compete in the Premier Division of the Cheshire Veterans Football League.

The over-35s side from south Manchester attracted attention last year after putting together a squad packed with former Premier League players.

This season's squad includes former England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, Everton forward Oumar Niasse, former Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia, Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse, Manchester City pair Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha, and Premier League title winners Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Bolt remains the fastest man in history over 100m and 200m, having set world records for both distances at the 2009 World Athletics Championships.

After retiring from athletics in 2017, he turned his attention to pursuing a career in professional football.

In 2018, Bolt scored twice in a friendly for Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners and subsequently signed a contract with the club after turning down a two-year offer from Maltese side Valletta. His time with the Mariners lasted only eight weeks, however, before he departed without making a competitive appearance.
