And after Corey Hall hit back for Wakefield in the second half, Field hit the visitors on the counter-attack when they spilled the ball just metres short of the try-line as they searched for a second score and a way back into the game.
While Ky Rodwell managed to pull another try back soon after, Wigan confirmed a club-record 12th successive Super League win that edged them above Leeds Rhinos at the summit as Wakefield remain in fourth.

The impact of this result
The table could look very different by the end of the weekend, with Leeds able to return to the top if they beat York Knights on Sunday. Meanwhile, a third successive defeat for Trinity could see them slip to fifth on Saturday if defending champions Hull KR overcome Toulouse Olympique.
Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet told local media
"I'm really pleased. We were against a good team that threw a lot at us. I liked our effort, particularly defensively. I thought second half we weren't great with the ball, but I loved our defence. The crowd was fantastic again, there was great energy in the stadium and it was a good game - particularly in the first half when it was going set for set."
