The 26-year-old has become Manchester United’s first signing of the summer after the club triggered a £62.5m release clause in his Wolves contract.
The former Atlético Madrid striker is expected to sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with an option to extend for a further year. He spent the weekend in Manchester to undergo a medical and finalise the move.
Cunha's Premier League career so far
Matheus Cunha departs Wolves having scored 33 goals in 92 appearances, capping his time at the club by being named Players’ Player of the Season after an outstanding campaign. He now moves on in search of a new challenge.
Cunha's arrival at Molineux was confirmed on Christmas Day in 2022, joining from Atlético Madrid. After helping the club maintain their Premier League status in his first few months, the Brazilian flourished during the 2023–24 season.

The 26-year-old produced a standout moment in January 2024 with a superb goal in Wolves’ FA Cup victory over West Bromwich Albion. A week later, he delivered the club’s second-ever Premier League hat-trick in a remarkable win at Chelsea.
Cunha ended the season as Wolves’ top scorer with 17 goals. Six of those strikes were nominated for the club’s Goal of the Season award, including a brace at Fulham and an audacious effort against his new club back on Boxing Day.
Having played a key role in securing Wolves' Premier League status for an eighth successive year, Cunha made his final appearance for the club against Brentford before completing his move.
Is this a good move for Manchester United?
Cunha has become Ruben Amorim’s first senior signing since taking over at Old Trafford. The club are coming off a disappointing campaign, finishing 15th in the Premier League, level on points with Wolves.
On the Red Cafe forum, the user Rasmus_9 said: "Really excited by this signing. Amorim’s system desperately required ball carriers and Cunha is the best in the business at doing it. His output will also massively improve us next season. A great start to the window."
Within the same thread, another Red Cafe user added: "Feels nice not having a whole summer saga for a change."
A United fan posted on X/Twitter: "I think that he’s an exciting player from the highlights that I’ve seen. What he’s like over 90 minutes, I can’t say. However, he looks like a player that will be a fantastic addition for the club."
