Super News | Paul Mullin at Wrexham

The 30-year-old striker joined Wrexham from Cambridge United in 2021 and quickly became a key figure, scoring 110 goals in 170 appearances across all competitions. Mullin played a central role in the club’s remarkable rise from the National League to the Championship in successive seasons under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

However, his impact was limited last season as he struggled with injury. Mullin underwent back surgery last summer and featured only 17 times for Wrexham, starting just nine games in League One and scoring three league goals.

Wigan will hope the prolific forward can rediscover his best form as they look to mount a challenge in the third tier. For Mullin, the move offers a fresh opportunity to get back to full fitness and regular football.

He becomes Latics’ third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Kilmarnock midfielder Fraser Murray and Portsmouth striker Christian Saydee.

A closer look at Paul Mullin's career so far

After developing in the youth systems of Liverpool and Huddersfield Town, Paul Mullin made his senior debut with Morecambe shortly after signing for the club in the summer of 2014. Over three seasons with the Shrimps, he made more than 100 appearances and played a key role in helping them stave off relegation to the National League.

A season with Swindon Town followed before Mullin returned to the north with Tranmere Rovers, where he celebrated the first EFL promotion of his career at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

Keen to secure more regular first-team football, Mullin joined Cambridge United midway through the 2019-20 season, a move that became permanent the following summer.

It was at the Abbey Stadium that Mullin truly found his feet. His prolific form saw him named League Two Player of the Season after scoring an extraordinary 32 goals to fire the U’s to promotion back to League One.

The next chapter of Mullin’s career would prove life-changing as he signed for Wrexham, joining the ambitious project spearheaded by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, with the aim of propelling the Red Dragons back up the English football ladder.
