In a cagey opening, chances were scarce, though Salford looked the more likely to score. The first clear opportunity fell to County’s Tom Iorpenda, but his effort was comfortably saved by Matty Young. Salford responded with pressure of their own and broke through on 35 minutes when Jorge Grant’s corner found Oluwo unmarked to head home.

The Ammies pushed for a second before the break, with Josh Austerfield twice going close, but it arrived just before the hour. Pressing high, Austerfield won the ball in the box and squared for Nmai, who slotted in his first goal of the season on his first start.

County struck the crossbar through Jodi Jones before substitute Jayden Luker halved the deficit late on. The hosts pressed for an equaliser, but Salford stood firm to seal a hard-earned win and preserve their perfect record at Meadow Lane.

Praise for Salford City fans

Karl spoke to Salford City TV (SCFC TV) after the game, and said this about the Salford travelling fans:“We could hear them, and it’s pleasing. Our travelling fans must love coming to watch us play because I think it was February last year the last time we lost on the road. So from that point of view, thank you for your consistent support.”

Other reaction

One Salford fan added: "This was a good away performance against a side that will be in the promotion hunt by the end of the campaign. Onwards and upwards for the club now."

Another travelling supporter said: "We showed real fight and composure today. If we can keep playing like this on the road, we’ll be right up there come the end of the season."
