There’s no need for you and other students to panic. Clearing could be your way forward. Each year, tens of thousands of students find their place at university through the Clearing process.

Far from being a last resort, Clearing is an opportunity to rethink your options, discover courses you may not have considered, and secure a spot at a respected institution, sometimes even on competitive courses.

What myths exist about Clearing?

Clearing is only for students who miss their grades?

Clearing is open to all, not just those who fell short of their expected results. You might have exceeded your predicted grades and now have your sights set on a more competitive course, or perhaps you've simply had a change of direction.

Whatever your circumstances, Clearing offers the chance to reassess and explore fresh possibilities.

Worried universities won’t take you seriously through Clearing?

Universities are keen to welcome capable and motivated students, and Clearing is one of the key ways they do that. Admissions teams look at your qualifications, potential and interest in the course, not just the route you took to apply.

It’s a mutually beneficial process. Universities fill places with students who are the right fit, and you gain access to a course that suits your ambitions, even if you didn’t follow the conventional path.

Is Clearing a stressful, last-minute rush?

While Clearing can be busy, it doesn't have to be stressful! Do some research beforehand to identify courses that interest you and check the relevant institutions website for any Clearing vacancies. This preparation will make the process much smoother.

Having your grades (predicted or actual) at hand lets you target suitable courses during calls. Prepare a folder containing your qualifications, personal statement, and reference (if needed) and practice a quick pitch highlighting your strengths and passion for the subject.
