Neither side managed to register a breakthrough, and the game produced just one shot on target across the 90 minutes.
It was a landmark occasion for Oldham, marking their first match back in the English Football League after three years in the National League. MK Dons, meanwhile, began the season with high expectations, tipped by many to be among the promotion favourites.
The first half offered little in terms of clear opportunities. Kane Drummond fired wide from the edge of the area for Oldham, while MK Dons had a penalty appeal turned down when Aaron Collins went to ground in the box.

Both teams showed more intent after the break, but still failed to create much in front of goal. Jonathan Leko’s cross was deflected towards his own net by Ryan Woods, while Luke Hannant thought he had won a penalty for Oldham, only to be booked for simulation.
Mike Fondop came closest to snatching a winner, but his late strike in the 88th minute was well saved by Craig MacGillivray, in what proved to be the only effort on target in the entire match.
