A closer look at what happened

Wycombe started brightly, with Fred Onyedinma and Armando Junior Quitirna both seeing powerful efforts blocked, while Stockport goalkeeper Corey Addai reacted superbly to tip over Dan Casey’s header from a Luke Leahy delivery.

It was the visitors who struck first, Kyle Wootton tapping in from close range after nine minutes following Jack Diamond’s cross, the forward registering his second goal in as many matches. The home crowd voiced their frustration at half-time after another subdued opening 45 minutes from the Chairboys.

Stockport doubled their lead soon after the restart, Diamond curling a fine effort off bar and post before it crossed the line. Wycombe were handed a route back when Dan Harvie was brought down in the box, only for Alex Lowry to strike the inside of the post from the spot.

Lowry later supplied the pass for Jamie Mullins to pull one back with 16 minutes remaining, but the damage had already been done as Mike Dodds’ side fell short.

Analysis from the away end: "We were holding on at the end, but that was a good win for us."

Jamie, a Stockport fan, was in the away end. He was pleased with most aspects of the performance, but was concerned with the nervy ending: "We dominated the first half with most of the possession and a 2-0 lead, but Wycombe's four subs at 58 minutes completely reversed the momentum. That meant we were holding on at the end. "

This was a view partly supported by Barry, who added: "Our first half performance was dominant, with the team pressing well, closing them down and dominating possession from kickoff, while the home support was non-existent."

Paul H spoke about the new squad and the new signings, saying: "The new signings have seamlessly integrated into the team, performing as if they've been with us for years."
