These figures are despite enduring one of the bleakest seasons in their modern history on the pitch.
The men’s team slumped to 15th in the Premier League, their lowest finish since the relegation campaign of 1973-74. Yet the launch of a five-year front-of-shirt deal with Snapdragon helped drive commercial income to a record £333.3m, with matchday revenue also reaching a new high of £160.3m in the year ending 30 June 2025.
The club still reported an overall loss of £33m, although that represented a sharp 70.8% drop on the previous year’s deficit of £113.2m. United stressed they “remain committed to, and in compliance with, both the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules and Uefa’s Financial Fair Play Regulations”.
Deloitte’s Football Money League, published in January, ranked United as the fourth richest club in world football based on £651m of revenue from the prior year. Real Madrid topped the list on £883m, followed by Manchester City (£708m) and Paris Saint-Germain (£681m).
So how has the club balanced such dismal performances with record-breaking income?
Player wages were reduced by £51.5m to £313.2m, largely because missing out on the Champions League activated a 25% pay cut across the squad. The accounts also include £36.6m of “exceptional items”, covering compensation for former manager Erik ten Hag, interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy and outgoing technical director Dan Ashworth.
Even with results stalling, the board is projecting turnover of £640m to £660m for the year to June 2026. The Snapdragon deal has restored United’s position ahead of Liverpool in the commercial stakes, though broadcasting income fell by £48.9m as a result of playing in the Europa League rather than the Champions League. With no European football at all this season, that figure will take another significant hit.
