Sutton opened the scoring six minutes before half-time after Donervon Daniels’ driving run created space, the defender seizing on the loose ball to finish calmly.

Hannant extended the lead midway through the second half from the penalty spot, before Quigley sealed victory in stoppage time, reacting quickly to tuck away the rebound from Tom Pett’s long-range effort.

A closer look at fantastic away performance

Latics had struck the woodwork twice in the first period, with Michael Mellon’s curling shot and Hannant’s low strike both denied by the post. At the other end Isaac Hutchinson tried his luck from distance on a couple of occasions, while Ethon Archer tested Mat Hudson with a tame effort.

The visitors always carried the greater threat. Early in the second half Quigley nodded into a dangerous area only for the chance to go begging, while Pett and Mellon both forced James Day into saves. Hudson was also called into action, tipping wide a strike from Arkell Jude-Boyd, but Latics soon made their pressure tell.

When Daniels was pulled back in the area with 15 minutes remaining, Hannant converted from the spot to put the result beyond doubt. Substitute Kai Payne twice went close before Quigley struck late on to complete a third consecutive win for Latics, who never looked in danger of surrendering their advantage.

Oldham fans delighted with a win

Hannah Jones: £27.50 to watch fourth-tier football is ridiculous. I know a few who refused to make the trip on principle, and I can’t really fault them.

Aidan: This was an excellent display and a third straight win. We’ve shown real grit over these last few matches. This was another disciplined performance and we carried a real threat going forward.

Danny W: Great to see players returning from injury which can only make us stronger. Pett, Hannant and Daniels were outstanding today, and Payne made a real impact when he came off the bench.
