A brief look at what happened on the pitch
Erling Haaland struck twice in the first half to bring his tally to 52 goals in just 50 Champions League appearances as City extended their unbeaten run to five matches.
However, Pep Guardiola’s side were denied victory in dramatic fashion when Eric Dier converted a 90th-minute penalty after being caught in the head by Nico Gonzalez.
The best comments
Gaz: Too many chances wasted. Nico O'Reilly failed to pick out several simple passes. John Stones is not a right-back. He is an excellent centre-half but needs minutes in his natural role. Three efforts against the bar could have changed the outcome. The defence still looks shaky and Abdukodir Khusanov could provide the stability required.

From a City fan in the home stands |
Alvin: Classic City performance. Take the lead, ease off, treat it like a practice match and then concede with a late blow.
Bryan: It was clear in the second half that City needed a third goal, but they played as if they could simply stroll through. How Bernardo Silva keeps starting is baffling. He offered nothing against Monaco. He says his future is decided. Hopefully City can get a decent fee for him in January.

Jon: We should have finished the job. Regardless of the decisions, we must kill these games rather than let opponents grow in confidence. Still, there were a number of positives to take.

Exploring the local area |
Stephen: A poor showing apart from Erling Haaland. There was little urgency, energy or desire to run at defenders. Jeremy Doku was nullified and Rodri looked off the pace, perhaps due to fitness. We need reinforcements such as Rayan Cherki or Omar Marmoush to add freshness.
Marcus: The ground was one of the poorest I’ve visited so far following City. The views outside are undoubtedly impressive, but the stadium itself was dismal. The concourses were dated, worn and in need of attention, and a large running track separates supporters from the pitch, which makes it difficult even for Monaco’s ultras to generate much of an atmosphere.
