The hosts struck early as Alassana Jatta’s cross from the left took a wicked deflection off Donervon Daniels and looped into the net after just seven minutes. County extended their advantage midway through the first half when Tyrese Hall curled a fine effort into the far corner following neat work from Jatta inside the area.
Four minutes after the restart, Hall turned provider, sliding Jatta through to calmly slot between the legs of Oldham goalkeeper Mathew Hudson and put the result seemingly beyond doubt.
Oldham pulled one back soon after when Hudson’s long clearance was chased down by Michael Mellon, who cleverly lifted the ball over the onrushing Kelle Roos.
Mellon's side looked for a way back into the game...
That goal and spell injected some much-needed urgency into the visitors, who began to find their rhythm with a sustained 10-minute period of pressure, though they failed to create any clear chances.
The hosts continued to look threatening, and Hudson was called into action once more, reacting sharply to tip a driven effort from substitute Conor Grant wide.
County pushed for a fourth, but Hudson again thwarted Grant moments later. The winger found himself with time and space inside the box and looked certain to score, only for the goalkeeper to stand tall and make an impressive stop.
There were no further opportunities of note, and after four minutes of added time, the final whistle confirmed another away defeat for the Latics.
The result extends County’s unbeaten run at home to five matches, while Oldham’s impressive away record came to an end.
