Newport arrived on the back of three defeats in four league outings, yet after an early spell of Oldham pressure, it was the visitors who settled more quickly and produced the first effort on goal as their new manager, Christian Fuchs watched on.
Oldham threatened twice around the 20-minute mark. Tom Pett swung in a cross from the right that found Michael Mellon, whose looping header drifted narrowly over.
Josh Hawkes then worked an opening on the edge of the area and curled a strike that forced Exiles keeper Jordan Wright to push it clear.

It remained goalless once the half-time whistle blew but things would get much better for Oldham in the second 45 minutes.
It was a fantastic second-half performance from the home side
Newport’s resolve gave way eight minutes into the second half. Michael Mellon’s header was beaten out by Jordan Wright, but the ball fell kindly for Josh Hawkes, who swept it in.
Former Newport loanee Joe Quigley made it two soon after, finishing from close range following a pass from Kane Drummond, whose run was supported by strong work from substitute Mike Fondop in the build-up.

With a minute of normal time left, Latics secured the points with their third of the afternoon. Fondop slipped the ball to Hawkes on the left, who cut inside and drove his shot firmly into the net to claim his second and sealed the 3-0 victory.
Oldham, who had managed only 13 goals in their previous 16 league matches, move to 15th, while County remain anchored to the bottom.
