The case was first delayed in June after the Red Devils expressed confidence in securing a bridging loan to pay a tax bill owed to HMRC. It was then pushed back again in September as the Super League season neared its conclusion and once more in late October. The club is now scheduled to appear before the High Court on 3 December.

It has been a turbulent year for Salford, both on and off the field. A mass player exodus, delayed wage payments and a series of heavy defeats culminated in a bottom-place finish and the loss of their Super League status. The club were replaced by Bradford Bulls following this year’s grading process.

After the October adjournment, the club’s owners said they had secured new funding to clear their debts and expected the money to arrive “within 12 days”. Salford had previously requested an advance on their 2025 central distribution late last year before being taken over by a consortium led by Swiss businessman Dario Berta on the eve of the season.

A sustainability cap imposed by the Rugby Football League severely limited their squad options, forcing the Red Devils to field youthful and inexperienced sides. The impact was stark, with the team suffering a string of heavy defeats, including a record-breaking 82-0 loss to St Helens at the start of the campaign.

In October, Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham and his deputy Paul Dennett met with RFL officials to discuss the possibility of a phoenix club entering the Championship next season.

With the next court date set for early December, when most clubs will already be deep into pre-season, Salford face a race against time to secure their future and their place in the 2026 campaign.

Michaela, another Salford fan, added: “Shambles. Let’s just reform as a phoenix club like Bury did in football and start again. We could be a Super League ready club in five years if we’re managed correctly.”

Tony added: “Just delaying the inevitable here.”
