More Bruno Fernandes brilliance

Just when we needed someone to prise open a stubborn Crystal Palace back line, up stepped the skipper again. Bruno Fernandes spotted the run and slid a superb through ball into Cunha’s path, forcing Maxence Lacroix into a desperate challenge that brought a red card and changed the mood inside Old Trafford.

Fernandes took the penalty himself and calmly sent Dean Henderson the wrong way to haul us level. From there, he was not done. His deep, inviting delivery for the second was inch perfect, allowing Sesko to do what he does best and apply the finish. That makes it 13 Premier League assists for the season for our captain, who now has his sights set on the record of 20 jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. On this form, you would not bet against him.

Cunha’s determination

If there is one thing you can always rely on with Cunha, it is effort. The summer arrival never stopped running and his persistence proved pivotal. He won the penalty, got Lacroix dismissed and immediately lifted the tempo of our play.

With the extra space, he grew in confidence, drifting wide and driving through the middle to keep Palace on the back foot. He was heavily involved in the second goal too, battling through challenges in midfield before surging forward and teeing up the move that allowed Fernandes and Sesko to combine. It was a performance full of graft and intent.

Big comeback mentality

The first half was flat and frustrating, and falling behind early only added to the anxiety. But this side under Michael Carrick has shown before that it does not panic. There was a sense in the stands that if we stayed patient, the chance would come.

It did, even if we had to endure a tense VAR check before Lacroix’s dismissal was confirmed. From that moment the momentum swung firmly our way. Having already fought back for points against Arsenal and West Ham this season, the belief was clear to see. Once ahead, United managed the game professionally, backing up the previous clean sheet with a far more assured defensive display to secure three hard earned points
