Watched by around 100 travelling supporters, Elisabeth Terland struck a superb hat-trick as Marc Skinner’s side dictated the game. Celin Bizet Donnum added a first-half goal, seizing on a loose ball in the area to put United firmly in control.

The win sets up a final in their mini-group against either hosts Hammarby or Metalist Kharkiv of Ukraine on Saturday evening. The pair meet later on Wednesday to decide United’s opponents.

UEFA’s layered qualification system means that if United prevail on Saturday, they will progress to a two-legged third qualifying-round tie in September. Defeat would drop them into the Europa Cup’s second qualifying round in October. United have never progressed beyond the second Champions League qualifying round.

Skinner will take encouragement from the way his side brushed aside a PSV team who, on paper, looked a serious threat after finishing second in the Dutch league last season. PSV offered little until the contest was already settled, while United, third in the WSL last term, looked a level above.

New signing Julia Zigiotti Olme impressed throughout, while Ella Toone, making her first competitive start since helping England to Euro 2025 glory, was instrumental in three of United’s goals. Her perfectly weighted through ball for Terland to complete her hat-trick was the highlight of an assured display.
