The visitors' late arrival delayed kick-off by 15 minutes and neither side could impose their will early on. As
the first half drew on, Stockport gained the upper hand and deservedly led at the break thanks to Lowe's fine 24th-minute finish.

Ollie Norwood supplied the cross from a short corner and Lowe timed his run perfectly to power in his header.

Kyle Wootton almost doubled the lead a minute later with a header from Jack Diamond's cross, but Joe Whitworth reacted well to tip it over.

Nine minutes before the interval, Diamond then fired wide of the right post following a County break, then saw another attempt cleared over the bar a minute later. With around six minutes of the half remaining, Hinchliffe used his fists to deny Cole’s well-struck effort from the right.

Stockport hold out in the second half and get the three points

Andrew created an early opening for the Grecians in the first minute of the second half, but after meeting the former Hatter’s cross from the left, Finnish international Ilmari Niskanen sent his shot over the bar. Seven minutes later, Whitworth was called into action again, pushing away a Norwood strike from the edge of the Exeter area.

Just after the hour, Niskanen came close when he found himself with acres of space on the right and advanced on goal unchallenged. His shot slipped past Hinchliffe but was blocked by Connolly, who cleared it off the line.

Nine minutes later, the visitors’ top scorer Josh Magennis fired just wide of the left post. Then, a minute from the end of normal time, Andrew bent a free-kick from distance around the same upright.

Six minutes of added time were played, and in the final moments, Norwood had the chance to crown his Man of the Match display with a late goal, but his free-kick was gathered safely by Whitworth.
