The hosts began sluggishly but appeared to gain an advantage after a strange incident in the penalty area, when Idrissa Gueye clashed with Michael Keane, striking his teammate and receiving a straight red card.
Any hope this might turn the match in United’s favour was short-lived, as Everton took the lead just before half-time. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall surged forward and unleashed a fierce strike into the top corner.
After the interval, United dominated possession and produced numerous attempts, with Joshua Zirkzee twice denied by Jordan Pickford, but they could not break down Everton’s defence.

United pressed relentlessly in search of an equaliser, but their efforts were in vain as Everton became the first away side to claim a Premier League victory at Old Trafford after being reduced to ten men.
The night also marked a personal triumph for former United manager David Moyes, who secured his first Premier League win at this ground as an opposition coach.
The defeat leaves the Reds in 10th, three points shy of the top four, while Everton rise to 11th, level on points with United but behind on goal difference.
Two steps back for United on a night where they remembered a Manchester icon
The night started with an emotional tribute to the legendary Mani, who passed away last week. Various classic tracks from The Stone Roses were played before the match, including ‘This is the One’, which has become a staple of matchdays at Old Trafford over the last 25 years.
The match then started, but seemingly nobody told Ruben Amorim’s players.
With Everton reduced to ten men and the chance to move into the Champions League places, United needed composure on the ball but struggled for control. Joshua Zirkzee, starting in place of the injured Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, squandered possession on several occasions. He was not alone, as Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro also gave the ball away under little pressure while United attempted to build attacking momentum.
Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes were the most consistent threats, testing Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, while substitute Mason Mount came close with a curling effort. It was not until Zirkzee’s header from Luke Shaw’s cross, 11 minutes from time, that Pickford was truly called into action. Matthijs de Ligt had scored an injury-time equaliser at Tottenham two weeks ago, but United’s final chance fell short, with his shot lacking the power to trouble the Everton goalkeeper.
