Kamarai Swyer pulled his early effort wide after being picked out by Kyle Edwards, but it was a long time before the contest found any rhythm on what was a bitterly cold afternoon.
Northampton shaded a scrappy first half and posed the greater threat through Edwards, who had one shot blocked and another smartly saved, though clear chances were at a premium for both sides.
Stockport manager Dave Challinor, visibly unimpressed with his side’s display, responded with four changes at the interval, yet County remained without a shot until the hour mark.
Their first attempt arrived after 65 minutes and almost proved decisive, with Malik Mothersille’s powerful strike forcing Ross Fitzsimons into a fine save as he tipped the ball over the bar.
Ben Osborn later fired over from the edge of the area, while at the other end Ben Hinchliffe denied Joe Wormleighton with a save from close range, as both sides settled for a point.

These were the views of the Stockport boss.
💬 "If we're going to be successful at the back end of the season, we've got to be miles better than we were today."

One fan told us: “A really poor performance and probably lucky to come away with a point as the game finished 0-0.”
Another added: “A lot of work to do between now and May, but hopefully promotion becomes a reality with a strong second half to the season.
