Olly Casey gave the hosts an early lift when he headed the Seasiders in front, only for Owen Moxon to bring Wigan level before half time. After that, clear chances were scarce and neither side could quite find the moment of quality required to turn a point into three, leaving both clubs still looking over their shoulders near the foot of the table.

Blackpool made the brighter start and needed only three minutes to take the lead. Casey rose highest inside the penalty area to meet a Jordan Brown free kick, directing a firm header beyond Sam Tickle.

Wigan responded gradually and were rewarded just before the interval. Moxon collected the ball on the edge of the area and drove a low effort into the bottom corner to restore parity.

The visitors came closest to finding a winner after the break. Joe Taylor cut in from the left with a sharp run into the box and struck the inside of the post from a tight angle, the ball bouncing away to safety.

Blackpool’s best opening of the second half arrived at the other end when Brown forced Tickle into a save, but neither side could conjure the decisive touch in a contest that ultimately reflected the anxious position both occupy in the table.
