Could the match against Grimsby Town be Onana's last for the club? |
This is what fans have been saying
Pat: I’m surprised Onana stayed first choice for as long as he did. The mistakes were there from the start, yet he kept his place against the judgement of fans and pundits alike. Lammens should be given the chance to show why he was brought in ahead of Emi MartÃnez and, ideally, establish himself as our long-term number one. That could be the foundation of a defence that badly needs stability.
Jamie: Letting Onana leave was the right decision. He never looked close to the standard required for the Premier League. Hopefully he does well in Turkey and a permanent move can be arranged next summer.

Liam C: Onana looked a fine goalkeeper at Inter Milan, but two seasons on he has not adapted to the Premier League. It makes sense to let him continue his career elsewhere. For the derby against City, I would start Tom Heaton and give Lammens time to settle with his new team-mates in training.
Ali: If it were not such a big game on Sunday, I would throw in Lammens straight away. Instead, he might benefit from a couple of reserve matches before being asked to start. For this one, Bayindir should probably get the nod.

Bayindir playing in pre-season |
Matty: Lammens should start the derby. He has not been called up by Belgium so will have had two weeks at Carrington to adjust. There are no cup ties to ease him in, and Bayindir has already shown he is unreliable.
Marcus: Our goalkeeping situation feels close to disastrous. I am not convinced by any of them, and constant rotation only creates uncertainty. We need to pick one and stay with him. At the moment, I am deeply concerned.
