This victory extended City’s unbeaten run in all competitions to nine matches, leaving them well placed in fifth in the league phase after two wins and a draw from three outings.
How the fans responded to an impressive away win
Despite the win, not all City fans were completely happy with the performance. Some feel there’s definitely room for improvement.
Tom: Still feels like a team of two halves, the question is which one they want to dominate. A comfortable win away from home against decent opposition, but consistency matters more than the occasional 4-0 followed by a string of defeats.
Liam: Savinho has come under plenty of criticism over the past year. He is undoubtedly creative, but his finishing has often been inconsistent. Lately, though, the Brazilian has shown signs of improvement, registering an assist in each of his last two matches.
Lewis: Signs of the old City returning, though they still rely too heavily on Haaland for goals. A bit more tempo across the pitch would make a big difference.

Craig: A composed display and an important away win against quality opponents. Missed chances remain a concern, but the creativity is there, as is another clean sheet. The momentum and optimism are growing, quite the contrast to last season.
Beth Lee: Haaland is scoring at an astonishing rate and shows no sign of slowing down. It feels almost inevitable that he will find the net in any match he plays, and defenders must sense it coming sooner or later. Many of his goals this season have been crucial in breaking the deadlock and setting the tone for victories.
Ben: A solid professional performance against a tricky Villarreal side, who City managed to make look second-rate. Erling Haaland is simply unstoppable.
Owen: City just about did enough. A poor second half though, why stop playing? It brought back memories of that Monaco collapse.
Nathan: The first half was excellent, full of sharp movement and attacking intent, capped by two well-worked goals. But the second half was flat. City let Villarreal press by overplaying at the back and hesitating to go forward. That kind of complacency needs fixing fast.
